the outdoor space formed by the existing wings of the former castle complex — the “castle courtyard” — opens to the east into an enclosed park with a distinct population of fruit and deciduous trees.
this natural-spatial situation is taken up and redefined in the present project: via connecting corridors, the new care home is linked to the north and south wings — forming, as it were, a built enclosure of this park, in a spatially clearly articulated position in relation to the historic buildings, yet maintaining a respectful distance.

the new care home building is structured as a three-storey, terraced residential wing, with three residential groups per floor (= care units) — featuring common areas and terraces facing the park, and single rooms oriented to the east — the building "hovers" above the terrain.
the communal facilities and the kitchen, located in this ground-floor tract, open up toward the park via a pond and a covered terrace.
the existing buildings accessed via partially glazed corridors ("arcades") accommodate the remaining functions of the institution — the north wing houses administration, chapel, and therapeutic facilities (accessible for residents as well as guests); the south wing contains service and staff areas — and will be structurally adapted as part of the renovation, with partial demolition of previous additions (e.g., north wing annexes).

access to the new complex is provided on the one hand via the bridge from the street side, and on the other along the building's main axis through the courtyard and park, coming from the parking area.
