he bus depot of the vienna public transport company develops its building configuration as a compact facility emerging from the surrounding green space.
optimized traffic and work flows shape the floor plan layout of the workshops.
between the green roof surfaces of the building volumes, a translucent, light membrane spans across the open parking areas for 234 buses.
the massive “blocks” (workshop and administration) absorb the horizontal tensile forces from the cable-supported roof structure.
the covered parking areas are column-free. a few vertical tension anchors lead the membrane’s low points into the “hall.” if necessary, they yield slightly when buses drive in, but the structural safety of the roof remains intact.

rain and snow are drained at the (heated) membrane low points.
the workshops are lit at the end walls through the required glass portions. the main lighting comes from skylight strips in the roof surface.
solar collectors on the roof surface provide domestic hot water.
the facades at the parking areas are built solid in accordance with fire protection requirements.
the corridors behind them are lit through openings in the roof.
all functional areas are connected in a weather-protected way.
