explanation
the operation of a new scheduled boat connection vienna–bratislava with a new docking station, as well as the creation of additional docking points for ddsg blue danube in the area between schwedenbrücke and marienbrücke, offers the opportunity to enhance this high-quality urban space in the center of vienna.

an elongated structure takes on the prevailing direction of the danube canal, upstream quay, franz josefs quay, road, and subway, cantilevers partially over the water, integrates into the cross-sectional space of the danube canal, and achieves the following goals:

response to the entire area between schwedenbrücke and marienbrücke with the three different ship docking stations.

creation of an urban connection between quay and upstream quay.

two equally important entrances: from the direction of rotenturmstrasse (bus parking, subway exit, subway elevator) near marienbrücke and directly at schwedenbrücke (subway exit, tram stop).

confidently, the new ship station spans across the upstream quay, aligns with its longitudinal extension to the danube canal, covers part of the upstream quay, and thereby creates a spacious waiting area protected from the weather, directly in front of the boarding points to the various ships. this makes additional roofing of the individual pontoons unnecessary. the covered open space can be used for various events during the warmer months.

from both entrances at franz josefs quay, gently sloping ramps lead travelers and visitors into the ticketing, exhibition, and event area, as well as into the café and restaurant, which are located halfway between the levels of quay and upstream quay. the arrangement of all areas on one level ensures maximum flexibility for the various possible uses such as exhibitions, events, presentations, etc.

a transparent presentation wall along the outer ramps and inner areas can be used in many ways, both inward and outward, for presentation, exhibition, and information, as a large advertising surface and eye-catcher for all pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers stuck in traffic.

café, lounge, and restaurant extend over the entire longitudinal span of the inner areas and thus offer a large number of attractive window seats directly above the water, with panoramic views of the entire danube canal area, its ship movements, and life on the upstream quays. in summer, fold-out window elements create a terrace feeling in the evening sun.

an additional attraction for the warm season in the danube canal area and schwedenplatz is the entire roof area, also directly accessible via ramps from the quay, as a sundeck with summer bar and various seating and lounging options.

the ship station brings the first district to the water. with its iconic architecture, it recalls a ship anchored at the quay wall and, through its distinctiveness, establishes a strong sense of address, visualizes the shipping company in the urban space, and is expected to become a tourist magnet.
