site location
in the midst of a lower austrian single-family house environment, the project occupies the northeastern corner of the site to keep as large a contiguous green area as possible to the south for the children and the beautiful view towards the wienerwald. the positioning on the eastern boundary allows the creation of a kindergarten entrance plaza with parking spaces, drop-off area, waste and bicycle room on wipflingerstrasse.

entrance – general areas
already at the entrance, users can grasp the entire building. generous sightlines, daylight in all areas, and a clear structure enable easy and clear orientation. the large vestibule serves as a stroller parking area. circulation areas are connected through open room annexes to sequences of spaces. the activity room, together with circulation areas, dining space, and multifunctional room, serves as the ideal center for kindergarten parties or other events. to the north, this space opens onto a large covered outdoor area to allow gymnastics even in summer rain.
group rooms
from the homogeneous, compact overall form, the individual group rooms grow to interlock with the green space and receive direct daylight from all directions. the green space is the direct extension of the group rooms. the sequence of rooms—cloakroom – group room – openable transition area (teaching conservatory) – covered terrace – open terrace—is ideal for kindergarten use. the unheated conservatory remains open in summer and can be closed in the cold season with simple materials (e.g., polycarbonate panels) to serve as a heat buffer and utilize passive solar energy. the gallery above the wet rooms and the group room storage creates a retreat with views to the group room and the center below, as well as over the roofs to the outside. from the reclining area, the sky can be observed. large sliding elements allow all group rooms to be connected with each other.

materials
to give children playful access to different materials, exposed concrete (load-bearing walls), prefabricated wooden elements (roof – secondary construction), and steel (primary construction) are left as original and uncoated whenever possible.
