federal school center tamsweg

eu-wide implementation competition

the existing school from the 1970s is located at the edge of the historic center of tamsweg; massive in form, it ignores the magnificent mountain landscape. the proposed new building is independently attached to the existing structure, continuing the stepped height sequence toward the valley and cantilevering over the terrain edge.
the spaces of the public zone – library, double gymnasium, exercise hall, recreation room – are fluidly connected both outward and within the internal structure, experienced as a continuous whole until the impressive mountain backdrop defines the spatial boundary. the floating classroom slab conveys, through its elevation, the necessary sense of calm and concentration.
