urban planning concepts
an urban screen encloses the hospital complex on the street side, integrates the new ground floor structures – mr and nef – transitions into the two-storey outpatient and staff room complex, and completes the enclosure with the southeast-oriented geriatric wards connecting to the administration and intensive care buildings in the south. with this gesture, the restless appearance of the existing complex is calmed and at the same time, the area is granted a degree of intimacy.

green space zoning
the existing nature park in the southwest remains untouched. the protected tree population is respected. an artificial park landscape extends with gentle waves in front of the geriatric wards in the east. outpatient clinic and day clinic are preceded by green lungs.

placement of the new buildings
in continuation of the basic idea of the existing structure, all care wards are placed adjacent to quiet green zones, further outpatient areas are arranged on the ground floor, noise pollution from car traffic is kept away from the care area, and the service yard is designed as the central delivery zone.
parking decks
the location of car parking spaces remains in the eastern part of the area
two parking decks provide the required parking spaces
the greened garage roof extends the natural zone of the area and defines the dedicated geriatric garden.

pathway layout
a new main axis guides visitors, patients and staff from the garage into the core of the outpatient area
at the intersection of the existing entrance and the new main axis lies the central distributor to all outpatient areas

helicopter transports
the new helipad is placed above the orthopaedic extension in order to minimize the distance to shock room and x-ray – via elevator
